Canarsie, Brooklyn A wave of hope and transformation is rising in the heart of Brooklyn. Councilwoman Mercedes Mercedes Narcisse spoke about her commitment to making health a priority for Canarsie. Chef Jacques Laventure, founder of Get Fit Eat Well, brought the community together for a special event at Barach Baptist Church, marking the powerful launch of the 40-Day Challenge a wellness movement focused on faith, food, and community.
The event was a huge success, filled with laughter, inspiration, and flavorful food. Chef Jacques demonstrated how eating fresh vegetables, cooking with love, and building mindful habits can help prevent and manage diabetes, a growing concern among Haitian and Caribbean families in Brooklyn.
Community in Action at Barach Baptist Church
After a heartfelt presentation, members of the Haitian church community were deeply inspired to take control of their health and live longer, stronger lives.
Many joined the challenge, committing to 40 days of better eating, active living, and daily gratitude.
“Faith without action is dead,” said one church elder. “Now it’s time for us to live longer, stronger, and eat the way God intended from the garden.”
The spirit of unity, faith, and empowerment filled the room. Real change begins when community and wellness come together.
